Procrastination and rape

Posted on May 3rd, 2009 in Uncategorized by alacamposeo

Ok i hate life right now! I mean the edublogs i really procrastinated on, the project not so much. The book was around 700 pages, that is a lot of reading. I really disliked the book. It was written well and was thought provoking, I just could not stand Rand’s ideas. She is really a big hypocrite. She preaches indivdualism but then becomes the leader of a cult. She says she is a feminist, but writes stories with a strong male figure, and I’m sorry but you cannot be a feminist and write a chapter about a rape.On top of that, the guy that raped Dominique is the hero and succeeds in everything! What kind of message does that send people????

Oh and that whole business about the rape representing a break from the bonds society places on women is bull. Im sorry but there is nothing liberating about being raped. It is violent and personal. It is an act of ownership and hatred, not of love. I know there are those fetishes out there, but I’m sorry they are not even close to rape because the women chooses to engage in those acts.

It is things like that that make me dislike Rand. No one, especially a women should even consider saying those things. Im sorry if any of you disagree, but trust me rape is an ugly thing that does not deserve to have an entire chapter dedicated to it, or to be shown in a positive light.

The Fountainhead

When I was faced with the challenge of choosing a book for my final project, I had no idea what to choose. Later that night my mom made me go through scholarship stuff. I found an essay competition for Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead. I decided to kill two birds with one stone and went out to buy it.

That same night I started reading. My mom had warned me ahead of time that I would not agree with most of Ayn Rand’s philosophies and no to get too wrapped up in my feelings toward her beliefs. I started out reading her short biography.

Ayn Rand survived a communist Soviet Union and escaped to America. The thought of anything that takes away control from someone else makes her angry. This is why she has a problem with religion. She states that any religious person is a “man hater” because they could never realize the full potential of man. Her literature is dripping with anti-communist and anti-relgious language.
